Unreliable Sydney Australia Server

edited November 2019 in General VPN Support
The Sydney Australia server seems to be very unreliable. Very often It becomes extremely slow, unable to connect to any web sites or connect to / play any internet radio stations without them constantly dropping out when connected to the Sydney Australia server.
When this happens I switch to Melbourne Australia and everything connects fine without and problem.
Also when connected to
  • Sydney Australia. my iISP webmail page refuses to load. Switch to Melbourne Australia and it loads perfectly without any problems.
  • Melbourne Australia can't FTP into my ISP web space. Switch to Sydney Australia and have no problem using FTP to accessing my ISP web space.

  • Hello!

Regarding the Sydney server: However - have you tried the following:

    - change servers
    - cycling servers
(connect to one server, disconnect, select a different server, disconnect, re-try the original server)
    - change ports and protocols (tcp/udp)
    - upgrading to newest version
    - clear cache and cookies in the browser
    - changed browsers to see if one is faster
    - performed a clean uninstall/reinstall
(uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling a fresh copy)
    - logged out of the application and reboot the device
(then logged back in to try and connect successfully)
    - enable the 'Use Small Packets' setting in the app

These options are not a one simple fix and may be periodically used to connect.
  • change servers: Always fixes the problem. Without changing any other settings.
cycling servers: Changing to new server and back to Sydney and the problem still exists.
clear cache and cookies in the browser: Whole internet is inaccessible/not working when Sydney server is playing up. Has nothing to do with internet browser.
upgrading to newest version: Always running the latest PIA and Windows etc
changed browsers to see if one is faster As I said its not the browser. it causes the whole internet to be inaccessible by anything when connected to Sydney server when its not working.
logged out of the application and reboot the device: Does not help. Problem still exists after rebooting.

I would have expected all servers to be the same. but Sydney seems to be very unreliable and can stop internet working at any time.

As I reported earlier. Problems still exists with the Sydney server,. Has nothing to do with my setup. As plenty of other PIA users are experiencing the exact same problem and switching to another server solves the issue..
  • Hello Greg! Have you performed a clean uninstall/reinstall (uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling a fresh copy) ? If not, please do so. Let us know if your still experiencing an issue with the Sydney Server.

Done a reinstall of latest release v1.7 desktop software and Sydney Australia server is still doing the same thing. Internet working fine then all of a sudden randomly just stops working. Switching to Melbourne and its all back up and working.
Melbourne Australia server is also playing up at the moment. Random dropouts where the internet stops working but comes back strait away. Frustrating  Especially when downloading.
  • ...yeah the Melbourne server has been flaky for sometime now too. Intermittent connection issues, slow speed tests etc (eg. I just Ookla'd Sydney at 95Mbps and Melbourne was only 75 even though the Melbourne ping is OK at 7).
  • ...also how come I get these tracert results for Australian servers with the VPN off...?

...they all have only 2 hops and they're the same when I get beyond my ISP...?

...apologies if I'm missing something obvious, I don't work in IT. I was just wondering how the pings can be different with the same hops...
